THE Donegal Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) has confirmed dates for an ‘eight-week feast of GAA Championship action’, following their meeting last night.
At the meeting in Ballybofey, the fixtures body decided to revert back to their original schedule for the Donegal Senior Football Championship quarter-finals, meaning those games will not now be playing until the weekend of September 14/15.
The fixtures had been the source of much toing and froing over the last week and clubs were left in the dark until the CCC revealed last night that it would revert to the September dates following requests from some clubs involved who asked that they not go ahead this week.
Contrary t0 what had been said over the weekend, it appears as if some clubs had actually been prepared to play the Championship as soon as possible with some delegates conveying this to the CCC last night.
Instead, the senior clubs will have All-County League action over the next number of weeks, with the quarter-final pairings remaining as is for that weekend in September: St Eunan’s v Malin in Buncrana and MacCumhaills v Killybegs in Donegal town on the Saturday evening; Kilcar v Glenswilly in Ballybofey on the Sunday afternoon; with Gaoth Dobhair clashing with Ardara on Sunday evening in Letterkenny.
This decision will come as a welcomed boost for clubs welcoming players back from a summer in the States, for instance Gaoth Dobhair who will have Kevin Cassidy back in tow for their game against Ardara.
The Donegal SFC semi-finals will be played on October 6th and the date of the county final has been pushed back until October 20th.
The Senior Hurling Final between Setanta and Burt will be played on Saturday September 14th in Letterkenny, while the Donegal minor football championship final will be held on Sunday September 1st.
The Junior A Championship final between Milford and Urris will be held on Sunday evening, August 25th, with the Intermediate final taking place on September 29th. The Intermediate semi-finals will take place on the weekend of August 31/September 1.
