Champions Ballybofey United strike late against Lifford

Ballybofey United 3 Lifford Celtic 2

Ballybofey United proved why they are champions as they fought back to beat Lifford Celtic in Dreenan.

Ballybofey took the lead as their former player Stuart Carlin scored an own goal, but the visitors went in ahead at the break through goals from Daniel Lindsay and Sean Ferry.

The hosts pushed and were consistently denied by Lifford ‘keeper Lee White, but a cross from Adam McCullagh couldn’t be kept out by the Lifford stopper with five minutes to go.

And PH Bonar’s side went ahead a minute later as substitute Mark Griffin rounded White and fired into the net.

A game rescheduled after being postponed due to the weather in January, the top of the table clash was possibly going to decide the league, but Lifford were deducted three points after an incorrect name was on the team sheet in their win over Kerrykeel ’71, thus making Ballybofey champions during the week.
