It proved to be a challenging Interprovincial series for the Ulster Senior Schools soccer team over the weekend.
Donegal players were heavily represented in the Ulster squad which was managed by St Columba’s College teacher Oisin McMenamin.
However, they found the going tough against strong opposition in the games played at the FAI’s Headquarters in Abbotstown.
The first match was on Friday night and Ulster were beaten 3-1 by Leinster.
Ulster then went up against a formidable Munster side on Saturday.
The Munster boys were much too strong on the day and went on to win 4-0.
Ulster were back in action on Sunday morning against Connacht.
They started well with Shaun Platt from Colaiste Dun an Ri, Kingscourt scoring early on.
They came away with a 2-1 win with Rowan McGroarty named man of the match.
The Ulster squad included Ryan McConnell, Peter Sweeney, Declan Patton, Eamonn McBride (St Columba’s, Stranorlar), Alex Cullen, Caolan McBride, Rowan McGroarty (Loreto Community School, Milford), Finn Nolan (St Eunan’s College), Gavin Friel (Carndonagh Community School), Oisin Ebbs (Abbey Vocational School), Terence Doherty, Stephen McNulty (Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana), and Leighton Green (Rosses Community School).
McMenamin was joined in the management team by Alan Boal (Royal & Prior Comprehensive, School, Raphoe) and Ryan Lonergan (Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana).
