A DRIVER in Donegal was clocked travelling at a speed of 147km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone during An Garda Síochána’s national slow down day.
The speed enforcement operation was carried out over a 24-hour period from 7am on Friday to 7am this morning.
The driver was travelling on the N13 at Speenoge, Burt and this was one of the top speeds recorded by Gardaí during the operation.
A driver was also caught travelling at a speed of 87km/hr in a 60km/hr zone on the R267 at Portnason, Ballyshannon.
Gardaí said these were examples of motorists putting themselves and others at risk.
Over the 24-hour period across the country GoSafe checked the speed of 140,720 vehicles and detected 211 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
A spokesperson said: “An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.”
