Last month, Letterkenny woman Caitriona Jennings was named on the Irish Ladies Marathon team for this Summer’s Olympics in London. Caitriona is writing a weekly diary in the lead up to the greatest sporting event on earth.
8am, Sunday, 17 June 2012. Exactly 7 weeks to the Olympic marathon. I run down The Mall towards Admiralty Arch admiring the beautiful tree lined avenue.
It is the picture of tranquility. I try to imagine what it will be like in 7 weeks time with the roar of tens of thousands of spectators as I run under the arch and around Trafalgar Square.
It’s so difficult to imagine – I get goose bumps just thinking about the enormity of the occasion.
Indeed, the trip to London to see the course last weekend was a fantastic success. Linda Byrne and I flew to Heathrow on Saturday afternoon and cycled the course on the London city bikes on Saturday evening to familiarise ourselves with the route before running it on Sunday morning.
