Cathaoirleach pays tribute to the late Séamus McGeidigh

Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Terence Slowey, has paid tribute to the late Ráidió na Gaeltachta journalist, Séamus McGeidigh, who died suddenly on Monday evening .

Offering his sincerest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, Mr Slowey remembered a ‘couteous and kind man’.

It was with great sadness this morning that I learned of the sudden death of Séamus McGeidigh. My enduring memory of Séamus is of a courteous and kind man who was always generous with his time. I often remarked that Ráidió na Gaeltachta seemed like such a lovely place to work and that was without doubt testament to Seamus’s leadership qualities and to the confidence he instilled in his team.

“Our entire county is proud of the contribution that Séamus has made to Irish language radio broadcasting over the years, in a management capacity, in his high-quality sports commentary, and in his role as presenter. Séamus also was a committed community worker, and played a central role in the organising committees for the centenary celebration of Coláiste Uladh in 2006, and again this year in the commemorative events in Gort an Choirce for 1916 and the local connections with the events of the Easter Rising.

“On behalf of the elected members, the management and staff of the Council I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to his wife Dolores, to his family, friends and colleagues. Séamus’s loss will be felt for many years to come.”
