The campaign has secured support from a wide range of local sporting personalities to help reinforce the message that support is available to anyone in need.

In particular, the campaign targets men, who are three times more likely to take their own lives than women, urging them to talk about their problems and consider calling Samaritans’ helpline (Irish helpline Tel 1850 60 90 90).

Belfast based McMonagle said he was delighted to be supporting this worthy campaign. “I think it’s great an organisation like Translink has teamed up with Samaritans to support the ‘We’re In Your Corner’ campaign as it shows how big an issue this is and also the fantastic work Samaritans do.

“It doesn’t matter how big or tough we are, we all suffer our own heartaches/troubles in life, big or small. It’s not a sign of weakness to talk about your problems, in fact it takes a bigger man to admit he has a problem and ask for help.

“If you don’t feel comfortable talking to a friend or relative, then Samaritans are only a phonecall away. They offer free confidential support. One phonecall could make all the difference,” he said.
