THE Balor Theatre in Ballybofey hosts five events this week – three as part of the Frances Browne Literary Festival as well as a concert by highly regarded trad group 3 on The Bund and a visit by Ulster comedian Mark McCarney.
Wednesday, October 8 sees a performance by 3 On The Bund – a five-piece group that blend tradition and innovation. They deliver both traditional and newly composed material with energy, passion and authenticity.
On Thursday, the first of three events takes place at the Balor as part of the Frances Browne Literary Festival. Literary Links features talks by Donnan Harvey (Cathedral Quarter Literary Festival, Letterkenny) and Douglas Bartlett (Steinbeck Festival, Limavady) in which they explore Ulster’s surprising literary connections to world-renowned authors Jane Austen, Brendan Behan and John Steinbeck.
Ireland’s national company for aerial arts Fidget Feet invites you to a Circus Skills Workshop on Friday. Fidget Feet performers will teach you all of the fun and the tricks of circus entertaining. It’s suitable for anyone aged 6+ but under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Northern Irish comic Mark McCarney brings his unmistakable wit and charm to The Balor on Saturday October. Known for his hilarious online sketches, Mark’s razor-sharp stand-up has seen him become one of the freshest and most popular new faces in Irish comedy.
A busy week is rounded off on Sunday night with In Conversation with Michael Harding. Ballybofey poet Dubhán Ó Longáin talks to the award-winning writer and playwright about a career that encompasses numerous plays for the National Theatre, a much loved Irish Times column, novels and several volumes of memoir.
