Castlefinn housing project hit by delays

A MAJOR social housing project in Castlefinn has been hit with a further delay due to costings.

The delivery of 34 units by housing association Habinteg was due to be completed by the end of 2022, however, an increase in the predicted cost of the project has led to it being pushed back.

The delay was confirmed at the recent Lifford Stranorlar Muncipal District meeting and was met with disappointment from councillors.

A Donegal County Council representative explained the project had stalled as the costings had increased to above the funding level.

An alternative application is now required to be submitted before the project can be progressed.

The council representative confirmed it may take weeks for this to be completed but added a significant amount of work had already been done on the submission.

Cathaoirleach of the Lifford Stranorlar Municipal District Councillor Patrick McGowan said the delay was disappointing.

“It is very disappointing as these houses are desperately needed for people who are on the social housing list.”
