CASTLEFIN is to receive a welcome social housing boost with the news that 34 housing units are to be erected in the town.
The €8.9 million project, situated at Raphoe Road, has already seen ground works begin following the contract being signed by Chairman of Habinteg Housing Association Packie Keeney.
Funding for the project is provided by the Department for Housing’s Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) and administered by Donegal County Council, with construction undertaken by Dorrian Construction Ltd in Letterkenny.
The first cohort of tenants anticipated to move in by June 2026.
Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher has welcomed the news of the development, which aims to address the pressing need for affordable housing in the area.
“I have a long association with Habinteg Housing Association Ireland as I was Minister of State for Environment when the 55 unit Mixed Housing development was built in Lifford and I worked closely with the Committee at that time,” he said.
“This announcement is great news for Castlefinn. The 34 mixed housing units are much needed in the area and will go some way in dealing with the housing need. It is through partnerships such as these we can meet the housing needs within Donegal.”
Meanwhile Habinteg CEO Stephen Shevlin said: “This development at Castlefinn is a key part of our mission to provide quality housing for vulnerable and low-income individuals and families.”
