Kieran Brennan feels the pressure is off his Castlefin Celtic side this Sunday as they host Carrigaline United – all the way from Cork – in the fifth round of FAI Junior Cup (1.30pm).
The manager doesn’t envy the opposition having to make the long trek north to Park View. With the competition now entering the national stages, Castlefin have already accounted for fellow Donegal outfits Drumkeen United and Convoy Arsenal.
They currently sit third in the Brian McCormick Premier Division, eight points behind leaders Kildrum Tigers but with two games in hand.
Confidence is certainly high as they approach the weekend. Brennan sees the FAI Junior Cup as a break from the pressures of the domestic scene in Donegal.
“Convoy and Drumkeen are sides below us but are two good sides nonetheless,” he said.
“Drumkeen brought us to extra-time. That could have went either way. We were stretched for players against Convoy. It was actually my own wedding that weekend. But the boys came through fair play to them.”
