Cassidy’s quarry in Buncrana being tested

TESTING at Cassidy’s Quarry in Buncrana started on Tuesday morning as part of the legal action by Coleman Legal on behalf of home owners with defective building materials.

The inspection comes on foot of a High Court order in the Defective Blocks Ireland class action being taken by up to 2,000 affected home owners.

Heavy machinery and testing equipment were in place at the quarry on Monday evening and court approved experts are due to test rock samples over the coming days.

Each of the parties involved in the legal action are permitted to have their own experts at the Gransha site – Cassidy’s, Donegal County Council, National Standards Authority of Ireland and representatives from the Defective Block action.

It is expected there will be much discussion among the parties involved as to what should be tested and where the specific samples are taken from.

The tests are scheduled to last two days but can be extended to three if deemed necessary. The testing will be done with agreement between all sides.

Materials will then be taken away for further off-site analysis. The results are expected to be revealed initially to the High Court early next year.
