INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing after more than 530,000 cigarettes and tobacco products, along with cash exceeding €410,000, were seized during a joint-agency operation in Burnfoot yesterday.
Gardaí in Donegal and Revenue Customs Service conducted a joint-agency search operation at a residence in Burnfoot on Wednesday morning, February 12.
A follow up search was carried out by Revenue Customs Service yesterday, Thursday, February 13.
A garda spokesperson said: “During the course of the search operation and follow-up searches by Revenue Customs Services, over 530,000 cigarettes and tobacco products were discovered.
“Cash valued in excess €410,000 was also found in both euro and sterling currencies.
“All items were seized by Revenue Customs Service along with two vehicles, a cash counting machine, financial documentation and mobile phones.”
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.
A garda spokesperson continued: “Gardaí are investigating suspected money laundering offences contrary to the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act, 2010.
“No arrests have been made at this time.”
