‘We can all play our part’- Beautiful Carrigart hoping for Tidy Towns success

CARRIGART Tidy Towns are appealing to residents and business owners to ensure their properties are looking their best when the first adjudication happens towards the end of June.

Reminding locals that the village has won the prestigious Gaeltacht Award 16 times, a spokesperson for the Tidy Towns said a lot of hard work has gone into the presentation of the village and the approach roads so far this year.

“However, there are certain matters which could negate all of this work, ones which the group has no control over. There is a problem with indiscriminate littering along our roads, most of which is cast from passing vehicles. Our intention is to make Carrigart a litter free zone , so we appeal to the public to help us achieve that status,” he said.

He pointed out that with the work done on Óstán Charraig Airt and the amazing wood sculptures in the green opposite the Óstán, he believes the village can regain the title won by Belmullet for the last three years.

“If you plan to paint your premises, perhaps you might consider doing so as soon as possible. If you were unable to partake in our annual spring clean and you still wish to do a clean-up on a road near you, please ring 91 55623 to collect pickers, gloves, bags etc,” he added.

CCTV has now been installed at the recycling units at the church car parks in the hope this will prevent the indiscriminate dumping of household waste, bags of cans, bottles, duvets, pillows.
