THE Carndonagh man charged with murdering his parents last week was remanded in custody when he appeared before Letterkenny District Court this morning.
Julian Cuddihy (42) is charged with murdering his parents James and Kathleen Cuddihy at the family home in Churchtown Carndonagh between Wednesday night last and Thursday morning.
The accused did not speak when he appeared before Judge Paul Kelly today.
Solicitor for Cuddihy Mr Ray Lannon reminded Judge Kelly that Judge Kevin Kilrane had ordered a psychiatric assessment as soon as possible when the accused appeared before Ballyshannon Court on Friday evening.
Inspector Goretti Sheridan said that a psychiatric assessment take place as soon as possible but Castlerea Prison don’t have these facilities.
“We are liaising to make that happen. Dr Kennedy from the Central Mental Hospital has been in touch – it is a work in progress,” Inspector Sheridan said.
Judge Kelly said the assessment was needed as soon as possible and he noted it was requested last week.
“Try and get it done as soon as possible,” he said and remanded Cuddihy to appear before Harristown District Court on November 7.
The accused sat very still in the court, just staring ahead.
