Carndonagh Community School will go in search of Markey Cup glory when they take on St Ciaran’s Ballygawley at Owenbeg tomorrow.
Carn reached the decider after a thrilling extra-time win over Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair last week.
Moville’s Graeme Doherty is in charge of Carndonagh CS and they have been impressive throughout the competition.
However, they will face a stern test in the final against a St Ciaran’s side who saw off a fancied St Columba’s Comprehensive Glenties team in their semi-final.
Current Tyrone senior ladies manager Darren McCann is involved in the backroom team with Ballygawley.
Some of the players involved with St Ciaran’s have already made their mark at provincial and national level with Tyrone at underage level.
For instance, Darren McAnespie (Aghaloo) and Elliot Kerr (Errigal Ciaran) were integral to the county’s run to a first All-Ireland Minor Championship title since 2010 while Shea McDermott (Errigal) played an important role in the U20’s run to back-to-back All-Ireland titles. The likes of Clogher, Beragh, Eskra and Killeeshil are also represented while there is a bumper contingent of players from the Galbally Pearses club.
Carndonagh Community School won the Markey Cup back in 2018.
Current Donegal star Conor O’Donnell scored 1-6 as they got the better of a St Columba’s, Stranorlar side that included Oisin Gallen.
It will be a tough task for Carn in the final and they will need a big performance from full-forward Danny Og Cooney who scored 3-2 in their semi-final.
Cooney from Urris is a younger brother of former Finn Harps goalkeeper Oisin, and is part of Karl Lacey’s Donegal minor panel for 2026.
His Urris teammates Joe and Patrick Doherty are also important players, while Odhran Douglas and Sonny Bonner have performed well for Malin and Senan Grant starred for Carndonagh in the Junior ‘B’ Championship Final last year.
Throw-in at Owenbeg is at 1pm.
