Jonny Carlin featured for Wicklow as they overcame Leitrim in the Tailteann Cup preliminary quarter-final on Saturday evening.
The Garden County found themselves 1-7 to 1-4 down at the break but with the help of former Red Hugh’s man Carlin, they overturned that deficit and ran out convincing winners by 2-15 to 1-11.
Carlin, who found success in his adopted county this year as he scored a winning penalty in the Wicklow Intermediate Club Championship final for Barndarrig in a man-of-the-match display.
Wicklow face Tailteann Cup favourites Down in the quarter-finals this weekend.
It was disappointment for the strong Donegal contingent in the London squad as they were defeated 3-11 to 2-10 by Antrim in Corrigan Park in Belfast.
Gaoth Dobhair native Michael Carroll hit 1-1 for the Exiles, while Moville man Ciaran Diver kicked four points and earned a spot in the Team of the Week for his performance.
Former Naomh Colmcille man Daniel Clarke also got a point and Termon’s Nathan McElwaine started for Michael Maher’s side.
Joseph McGill of St Mary’s Convoy and St Eunan’s man Michael Miller also featured off the bench, but Antrim ran out as winners and will face fellow Ulster side Fermanagh in the quarter-finals.
