Cara House expand services following successful volunteer recruitment drive

LETTERKENNY’S Cara House Family Resource Centre is expanding the availability of its Befriending Service, following the overwhelming success of a recent volunteer recruitment drive.

The Befriending Service, a cornerstone of Cara House’s mission to foster community connection and support, pairs volunteers with individuals in need of companionship, particularly those who may feel isolated or vulnerable.

With the addition of new volunteers, the service is now equipped to reach more members of the community than ever before.

“We are thrilled by the incredible response to our call for volunteers,” said Katie McGee, Active Age Coordinator at Cara House Family Resource Centre.

“This expansion allows us to bring comfort, connection, and a sense of belonging to even more people in our community.

“It’s a testament to the generosity and compassion of our volunteers.”

The Befriending Service offers in-person home visits and opportunities for participants to engage in social gatherings, fostering meaningful relationships that improve mental well-being and combat loneliness.

Cara House invites those who could benefit from the service or know someone who might to get in touch.

Referrals are open to individuals over the age of 65, and the service is provided free of charge.

Referrals will be accepted from health care professionals and family members with the consent of the individual and direct from the individual themselves.
