Cara Hannon to receive posthumous Masters Degree

THE bright sky in Letterkenny this morning stood in stark contrast to the grief in the hearts of the friends, family, colleagues and students of Cara Hannon as they bid their final farewell to her at her funeral mass at the Church of the Irish Martyrs. Though the loss is profound, Fr Kieran McAteer, who led the funeral service, reminded the large congregation of the “faith and hope” that unites them.

“We are united in sadness and grief, but also in faith and hope” said Fr. Mc Ateer, who encouraged everyone to support Cara’s family, including her parents PJ and Nellie and siblings Emma and Patrick in their time of grief. “In the days and months ahead, PJ, Nellie, Emma and Patrick will labour under a cloud of darkness” he said. “They will treasure the affection from their friends and never forget that you held their hands in their grief” he added.

At just 23 years old Cara’s life was cut tragically short, but Fr. Mc Ateer encouraged the large congregation to remember the richness of her life. “23 years of real quality, packed with music, film, art, a passion for history and friends in abundance. Her life was always for living” he said.
