WHEN customs officers in Dublin became alerted to a parcel found to contain a stun gun, it led gardaí to discover cannabis plants at a house in Letterkenny.
Letterkenny District Court heard how customs officers contacted gardaí when they discovered what was inside the packaging.
Sergeant Gerard Dalton told the court on Monday that as a result of information received on July 23, 2023, a warrant was obtained to search a house in Lisnennan, Letterkenny. It’s the home of defendant Lisa Murray (40).
The court was told there were three cannabis plants found growing in Murray’s home.
Murray made admissions to growing the plants for her own use. She smokes an ounce a week due to her anxiety. Her mobile phone was examined and it showed no signs of sale and supply of drugs, the court heard.
Sergeant Dalton said the stun gun was sent to ballistics and it was considered a restricted firearm.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian told the court that his client suffers from anxiety on an acute level.
He said that the stun gun also functioned as an alarm and torch. He said the item never left the home of his client. Mr Dorrian said that his client did not believe she was committing any offence by having it.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham directed a probation and welfare report. The matter was adjourned to September 22, 2025 for compilation of the report.
