DONEGAL County Council has been urged to move a pedestrian crossing at a busy Letterkenny roundabout over safety concerns.
Councillor Michael McBride said a wall along the footpath obstructs drivers’ views of the current pedestrian crossing at Oatfield Roundabout.
In a motion he tabled at Tuesday’s meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District he suggested moving the pedestrian crossing towards the fire station in the interest of public safety.
In their response the council outlined that the NTA Active travel scheme for the Ballyraine road includes the signalisation of the Oatfield junction which includes the provision of controlled crossings at the location.
The project however, is still at design stage.
Cllr McBride acknowledged that changes will be made in the long-term but requested temporary measures be put in place in the meantime.
The motion was seconded by Cllr Tomás Seán Devine who agreed that the junction is dangerous.
He also highlighted a similar issue impacting a pedestrian crossing in the Oldtown area of the town.
