Calls for task force to find Little Angels solution

by Louise Doyle

A COUNCILLOR is to call for a task force to be set up in a bid to urgently intervene to help nine children secure a place at Little Angels School in Letterkenny.

The plight of the nine families, who have been told their children with special needs have no place at Little Angels school this September, is to be raised at this afternoon’s meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

The families have been plunged into limbo and turmoil since being informed two weeks ago that the school cannot accommodate their children – despite a new state-of-the-art facility set to open.

The new school has been built on lands between the Donegal Hospice and the Business Park Road, close to the current school in Knocknamona.

One mum, Aoife Dorrian told this newspaper that she is “worried” that without a place at Little Angels for her son, Casey (4), he will not be able to attend school at all.

Casey has Timothy syndrome, a rare disorder that affects the heart but can also affect other areas of the body.

Affected parents have launched a Facebook campaign called, ‘Don’t forget our little angels for September 2025’.

Their campaign has attracted support from Pearse Doherty TD and Senator Nikki Bradley.

Cllr Tomás Sean Devine, of the 100% Redress Party will today  table a motion asking Donegal County Council to set up a task group within the council to work on resolving the issue.

He will suggest that one councillor from each MD be involved in the task group, as children travel to Little Angels from across Donegal.

His motion reads: “I’m asking this Council to support me in my call to write to the relevant ministers to urgently intervene in the Little Angels School. We need classrooms built in the new school.

“We are in a situation where children are being turned away in the new school year, this needs to be reversed as a matter of urgency.”
