Calls for historic plaque to be erected at Aura

By Chris Ashmore

THE Board of Management of the Aura Leisure Centre has agreed that the plaque from the old swimming pool should be erected at the centre.

This follows representations by Cathaoirleach of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Cllr. Gerry McMonagle and Cllr. Tómas Sean Devine.

The old plaque has been stored in the County Museum.

Cllr. Devine has asked that an unveiling ceremony be held “with the last three surviving men of the original committee and the families of the deceased members.”

He felt this would be a fitting tribute to the committee “who fought long and hard with collections, bingos, and other fund-raising events to bring this pool to Letterkenny.”
