A LOCAL election candidate for Fine Gael in the Glenties Electoral Area has called on Donegal County Council to respond pleas from concerned residents about a hazardous road stretch in their area.

John Curran says residents in Keeldrum and Ardsbeg are concerned for the safety of walkers and drivers due to a lack of street lighting on the road between Bunaline and the filling station.

Mr Curran, whose family are from the area, said he highlighting this issue after some ‘near misses’. “Locals have been highlighting this issue since 1999 and their pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” he said.

Mr Hugo Coyle, who first highlighted the issue to Mr Curran, said: “We would have to wait for someone to die in a road accident before the council would act, we have a busy takeaway on this road and need to make safety our top priority.”
