A DECISION by the Court Service in Letterkenny to postpone the Registrar’s Court which will deal with hundreds of mortgages, was criticised by a member of the Land League.
Carena McCallig of the Land League in Donegal has called on the registrar to adjourned all motions on mortgages for a month to allow sufficient notice for those involved.
Some 386 civil bills are already before the registrar’s Court in the county.
Ms McCallig claims the notice given to those affected by the Registrar’s Court change was inadequate and may leave them at a disadvantage.
“This is a very serious situation, and if tomorrow’s hearing goes ahead, then people should attend. How will people know that the court date has been changed. It’s not someone up for a speeding fine, this is people about to lose their homes.
It should be adjourned for a month. People are in a mess that should never have happened, they are desperate. By the time you get to court you are inn a bad way.
“People should make sure they get to the court tomorrow and ask the judge for an adjournment and put in an affidavit in their defense,” Ms McCallig said.
