CONCERNS have been expressed over the safety of pedestrians who walk along a busy main road outside Milford.
Aontú representative Mary T. Sweeney said there has been a significant increase in pedestrians walking along the main road between the Milford Retail Park and the nearby Mulroy Woods Hotel and a local service station.
She said that as winter approaches, there is now an urgent need for the footpath, which ends at the retail park, to be extended.
Ms Sweeney said a footpath is needed on one side of the road out as far as the hotel and suggested safety measures need to be introduced before someone is seriously injured.
“I have had several car drivers highlight their concerns to me, especially now as the evenings are drawing in,” she said.
“When I made some enquiries, I realised that this has been raised previously at council level but there appears to be no willingness to upgrade this pedestrian access as a priority.
“This dangerous part of this busy road needs attention now, before the dark evenings set in.”
