Call for public transport meeting

A call has been made for members of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Council to meet with representatives of Local Link and Transport for Ireland (TFF) to review public transport services and licences in the area.

Making the call, Cllr. Declan Meehan praised the Local Link service which has been “a huge benefit” for many people.

He noted the services between Letterkenny and Fanad have doubled, and there are excellent connections.

Speaking at the monthly municipal district council meeting, he said there is a need for better connections to Glen and Downings, and he noted that Patrick Gallagher coaches are looking for TFI support to improve and increase services.

“A meeting would be hugely beneficial to address all issues,” he claimed.

While the current process does see reviews, these do not include public consultations.

He felt that they should have public representatives involved to have feedback.

Commenting that Donegal has the highest rate of car dependency in Ireland, he also highlighted the need for public transport services to assist parents bringing and taking children to various activities.

Meanwhile, he also welcomed the fact that students from Loreto Community School in Milford are campaigning for better public transport in the area.

Following the passing of Cllr. Meehan’s motion, the Council will now request a meeting with Local Link and TFI.
