A local Councillor has urged the council to stop using coal mix to fix potholes as ‘everyone knows it does not work.’
Cllr Michael McMahon said the county has accumulated a lot of potholes during the recent cold snap and called for the new specialised pothole repair machine to be put in action.
He says throwing cold tar mix into the holes does not work longterm.
“We have the machine in the county to fix these potholes and we have had it in the Bundoran and Ballyshannon area but we are not using it now.
“Can this be put into action now shortly because it is a fantastic machine and in the long term it would be saving the County Council money by fixing these potholes properly rather than a short term solution.
“Can we stop using the coal mix on the potholes and can we get this machine into action because it would be very favourable for all the roads,” Cllr McMahon.
Cllr Patrick McGowan had submitted a question asking why the specialised machine was not being used during the winter months and reiterated the call that cold deferred-set tar is not a solution.
Mr. Bryan Cannon, Director of Roads and Transportation said the Council did do a successful pilot with the pothole machine last year and an update would be made available to councillors.
