Calendar Girls nominated for national awards

NINE ladies who got naked as part of Letterkenny’s Music and Drama Group have been shortlisted for two national awards for their performance in ‘Calendar Girls the Musical’.

The production which aired in December has been selected by The Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) in two categories. The awards acknowledge and celebrate the massive talents in musicals performed in Ireland throughout the year.

A spokesperson for the Letterkenny group said this week they were “just blown away that our amazing show was nominated amongst the best of the best in the country”.

Ciara Gallagher has been nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Annie.

The second nomination is a Special Adjudicators Award for the ‘Naked Ladies of Letterkenny’, acknowledging and praising all the LMDG ladies for baring their bodies and souls and raising money for local charities.

“This show meant so much to everyone who was in it, and everyone who saw it, providing laughter and tears and touching the hearts of audiences. It was a privilege for us all to be able to tell this story and thank you to you, the audiences, who helped make it such a success,” the spokesperson added.

The awards ceremony will be held in Killarney next month.
