The Donegal U20, Senior and Masters Championships took place last weekend at Lifford Strabane Athletics grounds. It was great to see such a large contingent of Rosses athletes taking on the track championships. A quick overview where there were gold medals in Seniors for Fodhla Nicphaídín and Niamh Doogan in U20 while Niamh also claimed a silver in the 110M hurdles. In the High Jump it was County Championship glory for Oisin Gillespie. On to middle distance and in the 800m there was gold for Kevea Gallagher in the U23 section while Captain Bernie Boyle took the county title in 3000m as club captain she made a big effort in getting adults to try track & field. In the throws Luke Mangan took Masters gold medals in the Weight for distance (56lbs), Discus (2kg) and Shot Putt (7.26kg). In the 400m there was gold in the masters section for Angela Trimble. Well done to all on a super day out. It was also WAAR 2026 weekend our club was represented across just about every race with some top performances. Declan Ferry claimed the runner up position on the podium. Seventh was Charlie O’Donnell, 10th Paul McKelvey, 12th Edward Harkin, 15th Declan Gallagher, 18th Frankie McGinley, 23rd Shane O Donnell, 40th Denis Boner, 60th Paddy Solan, 115th Lee Gallagher, 142nd Emer Magee, 148th Shane Trearty, 162nd Malachy Doyle. In the Sprint event we had a podium finisher with Fionnuala Diver the third Lady followed by Donna Boyle Gillespie, Eileen Lynch, Cathy Breslin. In the Duathlon fifth was Justin McCreevy, (first lady) Grace Garvie (second Lady) and Marie Gallagher battled well. In the 10k race Ryan Wilson took the win for the men with Fergal Rafferty runner up and first lady was Helen McCready, second lady Ashleigh NicSuibhne, fifth Graeme Edwards, 13th Adrian Bonner, and Keith Boyd. At the Ballyshannon 5k the first of our ladies back in a new PB of 19:11 was Kevea Gallagher. Claire Reid got a new PB also 19:29 with Martina Mulhern breaking 20 mins with 19:51. At the Secondary Schools Districts at the Antrim Forum there was great performances by all our club athletes with 10 qualifying to move forward to the Ulster’s Schools finals on May 16 in Belfast.
