Busy start as tallying of votes gets under way

TALLYING is under way in Letterkenny following a busy day of voting yesterday.

Hundreds of tally counters are crowded round the barriers in Letterkenny’s Aura Leisure Centre as Buncrana’s boxes are opened first. It is understood that will be followed by the opening of Carndonagh’s boxes and then Letterkenny. After that it will be what is expected to be one of the mostly contested areas, Milford.

While tallies are unofficial they are expected to give a broad picture of how things stand ahead of the official count tomorrow.

Votes from yesterday’s divorce referendum are being counted in the Aura however they will then be taken to Dublin for official perusal. The European election ballots will be counted in Castlebar on Monday.
