Busy Christmas weekend at the maternity ward

IT was a busy Christmas weekend at the maternity ward in Letterkenny University Hospital as eight festive babies were born.

Surprisingly there were no deliveries on Christmas Day but four babies were born on Christmas Eve and four more were born on Stephen’s Day.

Baby girl Shannon Quigley was due to be a Christmas Day baby but instead arrived at 4.10am on December 26, St Stephen’s Day, weighing 6.1 lbs.

Her parents Chantelle Quigley and Jeffrey McCrea from Letterkenny didn’t mind waiting one more day for their very special delivery.

Just over two hours later baby boy Leighton Conal O’Donnell was born at 6.24am, weighing 7.7 lbs, he was due on December 23, so his parents had to wait a few more sleeps than expected. The proud parents Carmel and Patrick O’Donnell from Annagry both agreed and said he was “worth the wait”.

Ciara and David McVeigh from Newmills, Letterkenny welcomed the arrival of their baby boy at 12.44pm on Stephen’s Day, weighing 7.12 lbs.

Baby McVeigh is their third child.

His two big sisters were surprised when Santa brought them a very special Christmas present a few weeks earlier than they had expected.
