WITH just three days to go until Christmas, children’s toy shops in Letterkenny are enjoying a bustling trade and a buzz in store.
Parents, and indeed Santa, looking for that extra special or last minute surprise gift are not being left disappointed as local toy store shelves are stacked to the brim with all the very best in Christmas stock for children and teenagers.
Speaking to the Donegal News, Darren McHugh, Store Manager of Mr Price, said footfall has been extremely busy.
He said parents have not “honed in” on one particular kind of toy this year, with all types of merchandise selling well this festive season.
“We have been very busy ahead of Christmas. In terms of popular children’s toys, everything seems to be in demand. When I look at the figures at the end of the each day I can see that everything is selling really well.”
A drive to encourage consumers to ‘Shop Local’ in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic proved very popular and was very much welcomed by retailers. Mr McHugh said he thinks this has continued.
“We are as busy as we were last year. I don’t see any difference in footfall. We have had a nice steady trade over the festive shopping period,” he said.
“There’s a lovely buzz about the place and lots of smiling faces. This time of year is always nice in retail, people are happier.”
Mr McHugh said behind Mr Price is a really hardworking and dedicated team who always go the extra mile for their customers.
“The team here have been working hard as always, and I would like to wish them all a very happy Christmas and thank them for their efforts.”
Mr Price will be open until Christmas Eve, but the doors will be closed before 5pm.
Meanwhile, when the Donegal News spoke to Tinney’s Toys yesterday staff there were extremely busy.
Stockists of infant, toddler, little kid, tween, teen and even for those kids at heart, the Leck-road, Drumnahoe, based farm shop is an integral part of the local community.
It offers the largest range of farm toys and outdoor toys for kids including tractors for kids, ride on cars, remote control toys and models.
“Trade has been really good this year. Outdoor toys and battery-powered toys are proving to be very popular choices with parents,” said a spokesperson.
Tinney’s Toys will be open until Christmas Eve at 1pm.
