BUS services connecting Falcarragh and Dungloe are due to receive a timely boost once enhancements to the route come into effect tomorrow, Morning.
The current 966 route will be merged with route 992, offering enhanced connectivity to Falcarragh, Derrybeg, Bunbeg, Crolly, Donegal Airport, Burtonport and Dungloe.
The route enhancement has come courtesy of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, an ambitious series of enhancements to the public transport system designed to create a sustainable, integrated and accessible public transport network for rural Ireland, funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA).
In addition to the enhanced connectivity, it was also announced that the new enhanced route would operate five daily return services seven days a week including new peak-time and evening services.
Ferry services to Tory Island and Aran Mor would also benefit as would connectivity to Donegal Airport for flights to Dublin.
Speaking ahead of Monday’s launch, TFI Local Link Donegal Sligo Leitrim General Manager Fiona O’Shea, says that the new route will be ‘well received’ by the local communities, adding:
“Route 966, which has been in operation for a number of years, will now have increased daily frequency along with evening services. This service will continue to provide local residents with access to education, employment, health, social and recreational opportunities and onward travel from early morning to late evening.”
