Bus Éireann carrying out full investigation into fire

BUS Éireann said they are carrying out a full investigation into the fire on a school bus in Cranford earlier this week.

A group of secondary school pupils had to evacuate the bus which was privately owned and on hire to Bus Éireann for the school run to and from Mulroy College and Loreto College in Milford.

A spokesperson for the transport operator said: “Bus Éireann is aware of an incident involving a contracted vehicle operating a School Transport service from Milford Post Primary Centre, Co Donegal on 7 November 2023, at approximately 4.30pm.

“Following reports of smoke coming from the vehicle all students were evacuated promptly and safely from the vehicle. The Emergency Services were contacted and students were transported home on another vehicle.

“No injuries were reported at the time and Bus Éireann continues to liaise with the school directly. Bus Éireann is conducting a full investigation into the incident.”

Mulroy College Principal Fiona Temple paid tribute to the quick actions which ensured everyone’s safety.

“Thankfully everyone got out and the bus coming behind raised the alert. It took all of the students on board and they were left home without any great delay. I am sure everyone was very shook up but they are safe and well,” she added.
