HUGE CROWDS gathered in Burtonport recently to take part in the annual Railway Walk raising an impressive €3,500 for Donegal Cancer Flights.
Beginning in Árainn Mhór, the group walked along the old railway track which has now been re-developed into a beautiful walk way.
With plenty of stories and craic along the way, the group also walked from Burtonport to Dunlewy and then on to Creeslough.
Reflecting on the walk, Organising Committee Member, Sharon Rodgers said this year they had a lot of new walkers taking part.
“The feedback was excellent.
“Everyone came to us and said they are already looking forward to next year’s walk,” she said.
Raising crucial funds for a very worthy cause, Sharon said they chose Donegal Cancer Flights as the beneficiary as the charity is very close to their hearts.
“At the minute they have 328 patients to assist.
“They have now also purchased a car and three of us on the Organising Committee are volunteer drivers.
“We have seen first-hand the benefits and the gratitude,” she said.
Donegal Cancer Flight’s founding purpose is rooted in providing care within the community.
They operate a service dedicated to the direct provision of community support for cancer patients, their families and carers.
They also work to provide support and free counselling for children with severe or life limiting conditions.
As Donegal Cancer Flights are completely voluntary based, Sharon said they need as much money coming in as possible to keep the charity going.
