Burglary suspects arrested

GARDAI in Donegal have detained a further five men over the past 36 hours in their drive to clampdown on the spate of burglaries in the county in recent weeks.

Near Ramelton three men were detained by members of the force when a spot check showed the man were not carrying any identification.

The men, all with addresses in Yorkshire but believed to be staying in Derry, are understood to be members of an English Travelling community gang.

They were not formally arrested but their fingerprints and photographs were taken.

The men offered no explanation as to what they were doing in the Ballyare area.

Gardai are carrying out stop and search patrols across the county in response to the recent robberies.
