THIS Sunday (28 October), members of the Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat crew will feature on Ireland’s Top Teens, a Foróige project, to be screened on TV3.
Earlier this year, 12 year old Callum King from Ballyshannon had his dream granted to become an RNLI volunteer for the day.
He spent the day with the crew and experienced what it is like to be a crew man at Bundoran RNLI.
The dream was part of an overall entry from Bundoran/Ballyshannon NYP which included dreams from a local surf school and the Bundoran Fire Service, into the Foróige ‘Youth Citizenship Awards’ where they were revealed as one of the ten finalists for all of Ireland.
As a result of this, three of the Bundoran dreams will be shown on television on Sunday at 6pm, including Callum’s day at the RNLI. In the second programme a week later the overall winner of the Award is announced at a special live show in Dublin’s Helix Theatre.
Shane Smyth, Volunteer Press Officer for Bundoran RNLI commented ‘we are delighted that Bundoran/Ballyshannon NYP was successful in the final ten groups and equally delighted that TV3 have chosen to include the RNLI in the filmed pieces too’.
Commenting on Callum’s dream, Lifeboat Training Co-ordinator Shane O’Neill said ‘We were happy to facilitate Callum’s wish – it’s very important for us to educate the youth of the area about the lifeboat service and how we save lives at sea – and it looks like we have a new volunteer in a few years time!’
“Ireland’s Top Teens” part one, airs this Sunday 28 October at 6pm on TV3. A special screening has been laid on in Eclipse Cinemas, Bundoran this Sunday with doors opening at 5.30pm.
