Buncrana named Donegal’s tidiest town

BUNCRANA has been named Donegal’s tidiest town at the SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards.

Receiving an outstanding score of 369 points, Buncrana took top spot in the county with Letterkenny coming a close second with 368 marks followed by Carrigart with 363 marks.

Elsewhere in Donegal, Raphoe, Moville and Glenties also received a bronze award for their efforts while Gola Island claimed the county’s Endeavour Award.

Minister Heather Humphreys also presented a new award to Ballyshannon Tidy Towns recognising their tremendous efforts to address vacancy and dereliction in line with the Government’s Town Centre First policy.

This year, 887 towns were competing for the prestigious awards demonstrating the continuing huge national interest in the SuperValu Tidy Towns competition which has been running since 1958. The overall winner of this year’s competition was Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.
