Broken toys and furniture dumped at charity shop

Six bin bags of broken toys and furniture were dumped outside of The Irish Wheelchair Association’s Charity Shop in Letterkenny.

The staff noticed the bags placed at the front door on arrival to work but on inspection soon realised the items inside were unfit for donation.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Taryn DeVere from The Irish Wheelchair Association’s Charity Shop in Letterkenny said it is disheartening and upsetting that these bags have been left outside their shop.

“The money we will have to spend on rubbish removal for these bags is the money we won’t be able to spend on supporting people with disabilities in Donegal.

“We are a charity shop not a rubbish disposal centre.

“All charity shops biggest outlay is the rubbish disposal,” she said.

The Irish Wheelchair Association provide a nationwide assisted living service, community centres in every county, a fleet of accessible buses, a national parking permit and driving school service, wheelchair accessible social houses and help young people with disabilities to build employability skills and confidence.

The Irish Wheelchair Association’s Charity Shop in Letterkenny is open from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday for donations and the public is urged not to leave bags when the shop is closed.

They accept clothing, shoes, hats and accessories in any condition, linens and curtains in any condition, good quality furniture, toiletries, books and household bric-a-brac in good condition but unfortunately they do not accept any toys.
