Brogan slams HIQA reports

BY C.J.MCGINLEY

THE Health, Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) is placing onerous demands on the standard of care and facilities in nursing homes a local councillor has claimed.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan (FF), a member of the Regional Health Forum, said operators of nursing homes were finding it increasingly difficult to meet HIQA standards.

“I feel HIQA is placing totally unrealistic demands on owners of nursing homes to meet certain regulations. I feel HIQA is being used as an excuse to close them down, ,” he said.

“Many are being run to very high standards but are still classed as not meeting HIQA criteria and to me this is an excuse to close them down,” he said.
Cllr Brogan also believes it is inevitable that Lifford Community Hospital will be downgraded and the same fate may await other hospitals in the county.
