Brennan enjoying life back at Keadue

BY MATTHEW WILSON

KEADUE Rovers winger Aidan Brennan hopes the side can continue their solid start to the Premier Division campaign when they host Kilmacrennan Celtic at Central Park this Sunday.

The Keadue men commenced their season with a fine 1-0 home victory over Kildrum Tigers before travelling to Traigh-a-Loch last time out to face Fanad United where the two sides shared the spoils.

Brennan missed the trip to Fanad but played the entirety of the win over the Station Road men. He discussed that it was great for the group to gain themselves a point on the road at a tough place like Fanad last Sunday.

“I wasn’t at the Fanad game myself as I was away but I heard they put in a great performance. Fanad is a tough place to go so it’s a great result to get a draw up there, especially this early on in the season.”

The Keadue Rovers winger has recently returned to the club having joined Fermanagh based side Ballinamallard at the beginning of the year.

The 20 year-old made eight NIFL Championship appearances while at the ‘The Mallards’ and he described it as a fantastic experience for himself.

He was joined by a familiar face at the club as former Keadue Rovers goalkeeper Paddy McGarvey was also involved with the Fermanagh residents while he was in the setup.

“I loved it, it was class. I really enjoyed it, it’s a great club and a great setup. The standard up there was really good but I couldn’t commit to it this year with work and other things, it was a while lot of travelling. But it was a fantastic experience, I really enjoyed it”, said Brennan.

He continued, “In fairness, all of the lads up there were brilliant, they welcomed you straight in and it was great. It was nice having Paddy up there as it was someone I knew from playing for Keadue so it was a great help in fairness.”

The pacey winger is now back in the Central Park dressing room and he’ll certainly be a huge asset to Patrick Bonner’s outfit for this year’s Premier Division campaign.

Brennan expressed his delight to be back within the fold at Keadue Rovers while also praising the standard of the Donegal Junior League. He’ll be looking forward to testing himself against the best that the county has to offer in the season ahead.

“It’s great, I love Keadue now in fairness. I have always loved Keadue, it’s a great club, great setup and a brilliant atmosphere about the place. All of the boys welcome you back in straight away so it’s nice.”

“It’s great being back playing in the Donegal League as well, it’s an enjoyable league to play in and it’s a good standard too. There’s plenty of good teams and good players in it so I’m enjoying being back at Keadue now.”

Next up for Patrick Bonner’s side is a home tie with Kilmacrennan Celtic this Sunday. This is a repeat of the recent Brian McCormick Sports Cup Area Final where Kilmacrennan came out on top following extra-time.

Brennan hopes the group can maintain their positive start to the campaign but understands that nothing comes easy when you face a team like Kilmacrennan.

“Hopefully in this game we can be a bit more clinical in front of goal and maybe a bit more clinical in our defending as well. Kilmacrennan are always tough no matter, it’s always going to be a tight game when we play them.”

“Hopefully we can push on now, get a win and keep the momentum running in the league which would be nice but it’s never easy against Kilmacrennan.”
