ARMED Gardai raided a number of homes in Letterkenny on Wednesday as part of investigations into an upsurge in burglaries and the robbery and beating of a taxi-driver.
Members of the Regional Response Unit carried out search operations a number of houses in the Long Lane and Lower Main Street areas around 8.30am.
Gardai entered a number of homes searching for stolen property. They raided an apartment block at Lower Main Street and houses in the Long Lane as part of planned operation.
They also carried out forensic examinations as part of ongoing investigations. While no arrests were made as suspects were not present, the move is being seen as a get-tough approach against the upsurge in burglaries locally. A number of people were interviewed by officers.
A well placed garda source told the Donegal News they had noted with some concern a marked upsurge in burglaries in the past few months.
