BRAVE Oisin Roberts (5) weighed just 900gms when he was born at 26 weeks. He subsequently spent four months in hospitals in Dublin and Letterkenny and his loving mother, Tanya, from Carrigart was unable to hold him until he was a month old.

He overcame a bleed to his brain, a hole in his heart and pneumonia.

Oisin now has Spastic Diplegia Cerebal Palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. He attends Little Angels Special Needs School in Letterkenny, loves football, computers, technical gadgets and music.
“Oisin gets sick very easily, but he is a fighter,” Tanya added.

He is one of the 4,500 babies born prematurely every year in Ireland. Some are too sick to survive, some have long-term complications and families need help in some way whether it is psychological or emotional support.

Oisin was born on June 11, 2006 in Letterkenny General Hospital and was moved by ambulance to Holles Street Neo Natal Unit in Dublin where fought to overcome blood transfusions, infections and laser surgery.

“He had to have fluid drained from his brain and was moved to Crumlin Hosptial after eight weeks. After three months he was taken off a ventilator and oxygen,” his mother Tanya (24) said.
