Donegal Under 20 manager Gary Boyle hopes his team can keep building now that they have their Ulster Championship campaign off to a winning start.
The squad have been training hard in Convoy and playing challenge games but competitive fare always has a different feel.
Donegal were comfortable 1-18 to 1-8 winners over Fermanagh in Enniskillen on Wednesday night.
“First and foremost, it’s just great to get started,” said Boyle.
“The Ulster Championship date is always on your mind and it’s just great to get the ball rolling and just to figure out where we are at and we can start building.
“You’re always building through training but once the games start, we can start building as well through that.”
There was a tad of good fortune to Sean Martin’s goal but Donegal attacked well in the first half and were 1-10 to 1-4 ahead at half-time.
“We got a lucky enough goal with the high ball coming in.
“At half-time we were happy enough because we were getting good enough shots off for the majority of it.
“I think Fermanagh had five shots in the first half and got five scores, and they hit a couple of two-pointers as well, some great scores.
“At half-time we were happy enough and just wanted the boys to keep doing what they were doing in the first half.”
Even though they were trailing, Fermanagh opted to sit deep in their own arc for much of the second half, but Donegal didn’t get frustrated and scored the last six points of the match.
“We had to be patient throughout the game on that, and especially at the start of games that can be tough to break down.
“But that tests your discipline and are you going to keep doing what you are supposed to be doing and trust over the 60 to 65 minutes that you will come out on top if you keep doing what you are supposed to be doing.”
