Boyle buoyed by Harps’ recent form

Declan Boyle believes Finn Harps can climb off the basement of the Premier Division – but says it’s going to take a huge effort from Ollie Horgan’s men from here on in.

The Harps legend feels last Friday night’s 3-0 win over UCD was no more than the players and their manager deserved.

Despite the most difficult of openings to life back in the top flight, the Ballybofey outfit continued to dig in, stuck it out and are now unbeaten in three.

Draws away to both Sligo Rovers and Cork City seemed to stir something in the side, and they finally cut loose in spectacular fashion last weekend.

Boyle told the Donegal News: “I was part of the live coverage up in Sligo for the Rovers match a few weeks ago. That was a massive week for the club. There were a couple things involved in it.

We’d Rovers on the Friday then we were away to Cork on the Monday night. And then, of course, we’d UCD at home. But you also had UCD playing Sligo Rovers. That was a big result too.

Sligo went and won that game. It kept UCD where they are. They haven’t got a result in a while. So it meant that when Harps picked up five points out of a possible nine in those three matches, they obviously closed that gap…
