Bonner – Win in Ennis will put Donegal in good position

We now have a much shorter condensed intercounty season, and yet our Donegal senior team have been under the radar for most of the last two months.

Since the end of the league, they have only played one game and that was the disappointing defeat against Down in Newry four weeks ago.

I’m sure the players are itching to get back to championship action.

They have played a few challenge matches over the last couple of weeks but it is not the same thing.

It won’t be easy to get a result in Cusack Park but Donegal won’t fear Clare.

They will view it as a game they can win but Clare will be thinking the same thing.

We went down to the Banner county a couple of years ago in the league and came away with a win but we were made work very hard for it.

The likes of Gary Brennan and David Tubridy have stepped away since then but they have some good young players.

It’s unlikely that there will be a big travelling support but the players will need to be focused.

It’s a huge match in the group for both teams, and you’d have to think that the loser is going to find it really difficult to make it through to the next stage of the competition.
