BONNER – Exciting January for Donegal fans

It is an exciting January for GAA fans in Donegal as we are all looking forward to watching our county team in the McKenna Cup.

After Wednesday night’s match with Armagh, the focus will have switched to Sunday’s game with Tyrone.

It all comes very thick and fast these days and the players and the management will just have to deal with that challenge head on.

Donegal fielded a fairly experienced outfit (on Wednesday) with plenty of seasoned campaigners in the mix.

There are a couple of new faces involved this season, and they will be keen to make a mark.

Oisin Caulfield from my own club had a great season for us last year and he’s a dedicated young lad.

Tyrone have plenty of talent coming through and you can be sure that Donegal will get a strong test against the Red Hands in Omagh on Sunday.

People might say it’s only the McKenna Cup, but I do feel that the outcome of these games matters.

You want to build up momentum early in the year and the best way to do that is by winning games.

Yes counties will organise challenge games if they don’t make the latter stages of the McKenna Cup, and it might suit some teams to play behind closed doors.

But I always feel you’ll learn more about a player when he’s out in front of two or three thousand fans.

There is a real good energy surrounding our senior footballers once again, and hopefully they can get a positive result against Tyrone.
