I’m sure the Donegal players will have felt like they had a weight off their shoulders as they boarded the bus back home after Saturday’s win over Clare.
It’s been a tough campaign this year, and there has been precious little to smile about.
They won’t be getting too carried away with a win over Clare, but it was an important match and a win leaves them in a good place.
At times we can forget what players are putting into it. They are making big sacrifices all the time and giving huge commitment, and that’s the case whether things are going good or if you’re struggling.
Hopefully the game will kick them on now.
It was far from a vintage performance and they struggled in the first half.
It looked like they were low on confidence and hadn’t gotten over the defeat against Down or the poor end to the league.
However, they rallied in the second half and I felt our leaders really grabbed control of the match.
Hughie McFadden and Caolan McGonagle were excellent and Jason McGee made a big difference.
Ciaran Thompson showed what he has in his locker and Oisin ‘Farrah’ (Gallen) got some level scores.
A special word has to go to Shaun Patton as well as he had a super game in goal.
