Two neighbouring football clubs will put their healthy rivalry to the one side as they join together for a unique charity fundraiser in memory of two valued club members who died last month.
Letterkenny Rovers and Bonagee United are organising a Walking Football Match as part of a Darkness into Light fundraising event.
The match will be played at Leckview Park at 4.15am on Saturday, May 6 – coinciding with the Darkness into Light official walking events taking place that morning.
Bonagee and Letterkenny Rovers hope to raise money for Pieta House and in doing so, raise awareness of the importance of mental health services which are needed to support those who are in crisis.
Last month, the town of Letterkenny was left in shock at the deaths of Kieran McGrath and Liam Haughey.
Kieran, from Ard O’Donnell, was a member of Letterkenny Rovers and Liam from Mount Pleasant, Mountain Top, was a former player and club member at Bonagee United.
Both men were highly involved in their local clubs, but were also very well known across the county, especially among the football family.
Next month, their friends at Bonagee United and Letterkenny Rovers will take to the field at Leckview Park to take part in a charity game on what promises to be an emotional day for everyone involved.
